Dipak G. Shah (February 2, 1942 to March 16, 2017) and Pragna D. Shah, Founders

This website is dedicated to the most wonderful man we have ever known, our father, Dipak G. Shah. Hailing from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, our father (following receipt of a Ph.D. in Industrial Pharmacy from the University of Tennessee) and mother (Pragna, who had earned a M.S. in Microbiology form the University of Mississippi) relocated to Wilmington, DE, in 1977, initially in pursuit of a career in the pharmaceutical and medical industries.

Best Hospitality is now poised to grow its presence in the mid-Atlantic and Southern United States and internationally along with its co-investors and partners.

Soon after in June 1978,

However, soon after in June 1978, our parents took a bold entrepreneurial step, and used every spare dollar they had saved and bought their first motel – the 13-room Raceway Motel located at 5510 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19810 in 1978. Little did they know that this purchase would be the beginning of a lifelong adventure into the hospitality industry and the creation of Best Hospitality, Inc.

In 1982, they purchased the Delaware Auto Court

(now the Delaware Motel & RV Park) and in 1984 they purchase the Tally Ho Motor Lodge (which became their first branded property when it was converted into the Days Inn Wilmington, DE in 1997).

The 1990’s and 2000’s saw Best Hospitality grow further into the branded hotel space,

with acquisitions including the Sheraton, Newark, DE (now the Ramada, Newark, DE), and the development of the Staybridge Suites, Newark, DE in 2006. Best Hospitality also acquired its first retail property in 1994.

Neil and Luv began contributing to the business during the 2000’s as well

resulting in expansion of Best Hospitality into the acquisition of over $40 million of UPB of distressed hotel loans during the Global Financial Crisis, and an expansion into Texas hotels through JARA Hotels. Further, Best Hospitality expanded into Europe through its partnership with Invel Real Estate Partners beginning in 2013.
